US Rails is a collective of songwriters, singers and musicians who met originally in the Philadelphia area but have since scattered all over
the map to France, Germany and Austin, TX. Most of the members of US Rails were originally 3/4 of the Philadelphia group 4 Way Street. We are now carrying on the tradition with the addition
of our good friend and slide guitar master Tom Gillam, a batch of new songs and recordings made one late fall in a cottage north of Paris, France.
With that, a couple deep breaths, a few plane tickets and some rehearsals, we're glad to be bringing these songs to life on stage for a few select shows in April. We hope to see you at one (or all
of them!) We'll tell the rest of the US Rails story thenaudience.

Rose Parade
Nixon's Head
Saturday
April 4 |
|
Rose Parade
Rose Parade makes intelligent, melody-driven pop rock. Their recipe is a dash of Beatles, a pinch of Jeff Buckley, and a tablespoon of Elliott Smith mixed into one tasteful serving after another.

Nixon's Head
With a vision that borders on myopic, Nixon's Head continues to bust through the nooks and crannies of the 3-minute pop song with a sound the Camden Courier-Post characterized as "The
Standells meet Squeeze." The band paved its own way onto the Philadelphia underground scene in 1986 with the self-produced EP The Doug Factor… Another EP; a single; and many raised, beer-soaked
fists followed until the usual suspects ground operations to a halt in 1991.
Since reforming in 1998, these Philadelphia torchbearers for garage-pop have released 2 CDs, Gourmet and Take It!, and appeared on numerous comps. A new album of darker material is in the works.

this eclectic Montreal-based singer/songwriter writes about things big and small, darkness and beauty, love and war.

Mutlu’s music is a blend of soul, reggae, and hip-hop, inspired by Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and Bob Marley. He avoids retro traps with his
use of cool grooves and a quick wit. Mutlu’s sound succeeds in making his thoughtful, clever lyrics dance. 2008 was quite a year: He released his first album, “Livin’ It,” for EMI/Manhattan
Records and toured with three of his favorite acts; Amos Lee, Daryl Hall and Joe Jackson. The future is looking bright for the Philadelphia native.

Chris Smither
Saturday
April 11
|
|
Some artists continually reinvent themselves; others identify their muse early on and spend their careers
single-mindedly pursuing it, remaining recognizably themselves through a career-long process of refinement, growth and discovery.
Chris Smither belongs to the latter group. Leave the Light On, Smither’s masterful twelfth album — the first he’s released on his own Mighty Albert label — stands as the quintessence of his life’s
work while throwing in some new wrinkles that reflect where he’s been and what he’s encountered since the last time around. But Smither’s central theme as he enters his 60s is clearer than ever.

Big Chill
Thursday
April 23 |
|
Do you remember waiting for the release of that awesome new album by your favorite rock band? Way back before "iTUNES," "iPODS," and "iHAVE NO IDEA WHY I'M LISTENING
TO THE JONAS BROTHERS," you trekked to the record store every day (uphill both ways) to ask the kid with bad acne behind the counter if "it" came in yet? Remember when your biggest
concerns were your music, your hair, and whether or not your car would start?
Well, Big Chill takes you back to those times. From the soaring harmonies of Left Banke's "Walk Away Renee," to the driving rock of the Pretenders "Middle of the Road," to the cool
groove of Santana's "Smooth," the vocals, thumping bass and drums, flashy lead guitar, Hammond organ and raunchy saxophone of Big Chill help you remember more than good music, they help you remember
a cooler time. A time when your hair was longer, life was simpler, and rock and roll mattered just a little bit more.
Hey, growing up is OK and life is good (at least the car starts now), but from time to time, remember to take a trip back. Hang out with Big Chill and "Forget who you are. Remember who you were."

Stolen Rhodes
Melton Brothers
Saturday
April 25
|
|
Stolen Rhodes
While their individual influences dip into jazz, funk, Motown, hard rock and country, Stolen Rhodes is on a mission to bring old-school Jersey Shore rock back to the world. Following in the footsteps
of Bruce Springsteen, any given song tells a story, and every show is different, helping them win over crowds all along the East Coast.

Melton Brothers
The Melton Brothers make the kind of music that is tappin, slappin, shakin and poppin from a pin-drop whisper to kickin take-your-breath-away grooves. Their style is a blend of swingin soul,
country blues and roots rock, and the show is a musical conversation delivering their own songs and stunning interpretations with rhythms and harmonies so tight these guys seem to be one soul. Dale's
one-of-a-kind organ style with Garth Hudson, Matthew Fisher and Booker T influences is the icing on this rhythmic cake. And the world is buzzing from Japan to Sweden to LA over their 1979 LP re-discovery,
songs the Meltons play today with a fresh spontaneous edge.

Brian Vander Ark
Thursday
April 30 |
|
Massive success and its aftermath have sent many artists into oblivion, forever trying to recapture the moment when the world first bowed at their
feet. That moment came for Brian Vander Ark when, as the lead singer and principal songwriter for The Verve Pipe, he sold more than 3 million albums worldwide and produced a string of hit singles,
including the #1 song 'The Freshmen.'
More than just the frontman, Vander Ark was its literal and figurative voice, providing the creative spark and writing songs that gave the band its devoted following. Although the songs were
cast in the style of the era, they remain singular and special. His gift is one of tremendous storytelling clarity expressed through melodies and rhythms that are unique, riveting, intensely
personal and entirely gripping.

An Evening with Michelle Shocked
"Michelle Shocked spent some time early in her career as a major label artist, briefly cracking the charts in the late '80's with her album Short
Sharp Shocked. There, she displayed her skills as a folksinger, one who drew her influence from punk rock as much as the traditional folk canon. Her subsequent albums showed a woman of
ambition, and one who saw no benefit to working within the confines of the singer/songwriter mold. Her idiosyncractic vision has led her to big band sounds, old time-y folk, gospel, and more.
Her output in 2005 consisted of three albums, which covered the realm of classic Disney songs done as Western swing numbers, Latin and Tex-Mex shuffles, and a heart-wrenching break-up album." –

It would be far too easy to classify the band's music as "blues rock," although that may be the first genre that comes to mind when listening. According to Chris, “It’s clearly rooted in rock and blues music but we incorporate other elements that in the end make our music something unique- or at the very least, entertaining.” Unique and entertaining might be an understatement as to the music industry, the band is being praised as "a breath of fresh air" in an oversaturated market of unoriginality.

Oneside
Keith Rounds
Skip's Museum
Thursday
June 4
|
|
Oneside
Oneside’s debut album, “First, To Last”, is full of structures, lyrics, and licks that are unabashedly plucked from the traditional American canon.
Songs like “Lisa” and “Got To Go” would sound perfectly at home on a Nickel Creek or Alison Krauss album. But right from “First, To Last’s” foot-stomping, bluesy opening track “The Letter,” which
combines elements of bluegrass, rock, jazz, and even reggae, it is apparent that Oneside isn’t afraid to make departures from traditional styles.
Other songs would fit right in on a Sufjan Stevens or even a Radiohead album. Yet all of the songs are deftly written and produced to create a coherent, if unique and slightly irreverent,
sound. Other bands may play strictly in a conventional roots style but what sets Oneside apart is their willingness to take these traditional fundamentals and place them firmly in a modern
context.

Keith Rounds
What can only be described as the perfect soundtrack to an afternoon in a hammock, singer/songwriter Keith Rounds’ music will instantly transport any listener to somewhere far, far away. His calming chord progressions coupled with velvet vocal tracks are the ultimate chill pill prescription. As a Bucks County artist, Keith has taken elements from rock, pop, reggae, and even hip hop and turned on the blender to create an unparalleled audio margarita. Keith’s original songs can all be heard on his debut album, which is expected to be released later this year. This opportunity to hear Keith’s unique sound should not be missed.

Skip's Museum
"It brings the funk. It's got the jazz. Bucks County Jazz Festival
Bucks County has had a long and distinguished history steeped in the arts and agriculture. So the pairing of the fruits of the local vines and the music inherently American is a natural alliance. The Jazz and Wine Festival, to be presented as three separate events at three separate times in June, August and September, is a celebration and a toast to the people and spirit of Bucks County.
The talents of local Pennsylvanian vintners will be represented and their wares enjoyed as local, national and international artists ply their craft in the beautiful environs of the county. Quakertown, New Hope and the county seat of Doylestown are the municipalities that will host the venues. This triangle in the county will provide residents and visitors with a memorable experience for the pallet and the ear.
The music will be as multifaceted as the county itself as artists of every genre in jazz as well as outstanding student groups from county schools improvise, scat and swing through a season that will prove to be as historic as Bucks County itself.
So please join us in celebrating the music, the wines and the good times that make Bucks County a meeting place for those who enjoy the finer things in life. Join us this summer for the Bucks County Jazz and Wine Festival 2009!

Clarity
The Philly suburbs are the proud home to the musical movement known as Clarity. It started out with a cult like following of friends and family, and then went on to include friends of friends, and friends of those friends. But suddenly girls who they’ve never seen before are asking them to sign their jeans at a sold out venue's throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
This singer-songwriter influenced band from North Wales, PA keeps the crowd on their feet at all of their shows. Sweetly placed pop melodies over an urbanized electronic rock sound are sewn together to create a satisfyingly unique sound. From New York to Nashville to Philly, Clarity has been performing to inspire a wide range of fans. The band hopes to not only get them stoked on their songs, but on music in general. Just off an east coast tour, Clarity is currently finishing an EP to be released world wide in Summer 09 and will then hit the road with a heavy tour schedule in the fall.
