Saddle Sores

Thursday
October 2
I’m Paul Goldberg and together with Del Conner we are Saddle Sores. We originally started playing together circa 1974 in Philadelphia. We lost track of each other for about 30 years but we’re back again. Recently, my (pg’s) next door neighbor’s kid, Cara Scharf joined us. Cara has several years experience doing musical theater and has an incredible voice.

We play “old time music”- old acoustic blues and country. We do some Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters (with a little bottleneck thrown in) and on the country side, Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams among others. We also like the ‘brother duets’- Blue Sky Boys, Delmore Brothers etc, and we do a couple of ‘murder ballads’ as well as a bit of our own stuff.

Ladies 2000
presents Ladies Rock

Courtney Fairchild
Lotus Hill
Kelly Stratton

Sunday Brunch, NY Style

Sunday
October 19

Ladies 2000 represents a group of women who enjoy socializing, meeting new people and dancing at great locations and events which we sponsor. No location is out of the question from the Philadelphia Zoo to the Franklin Institute. We've partied in the Limelight in New York City to the Copa in Fort Lauderdale Florida.

Courtney Fairchild
Courtney Fairchild’s voice carries tales of everyday people caught in an age of uncertainty.

After relocating from her native Dallas, TX in the fall of ’06 Courtney released her latest studio album Quit which is still wracking up spins at over 70 radio stations nationwide. Her music has been heard on television shows on both MTV and The WB and the Dallas Morning News and New York Times have declared her live performances both intimate and explosively energetic.

Steeled by a transcontinental move and matured by changes small and large, Courtney is getting to her great work – performing and writing songs that reach into you, singing in the sweet voice of an ageless torch singer. There’s more to come.

Lotus Hill
Featuring the lead vocals of Christine Moll and Peg Carroll, this band that formed from the ashes of the now defunct Anam Cara, Broken Jones, Three Stories High, and The Phoenix Trap has created personal songs and a sound that falls somewhere in the middle of a jam session between 10,000 Maniacs and the Indigo Girls with a tinge of rock thrown into the mix.

Kelly Stratton
As she trades between acoustic and electric guitars, her music is always layered and filled with a contagious energy. You won’t sit still as the night revels in her originals, unexpected covers and special musical guests. Make it happen!

The beauty and mystery of Po Girl's music - a sound that has beguiled fans the world over - springs from the dynamic, improbable, mesmerizing bond shared by its two principle singers and writers - Allison Russell and Awna Teixeira. The interplay between these two stunning performers is truly something to behold - and after honing it relentlessly in 13 countries in the last 12 months, the ladies are set to release a true testament to their bond and to their tremendous growth as writers in the last years. Casual Po' Girl fans may not be ready for what they will hear…

BuddaDadda

Graham Brown

E.B. Hawkins Band

Friday
October 31

BuddaDadda
BuddaDadda is J Davidson's new Funk project. J has been recording & performing on the Philly scene since 1978, played New Hope as early as 1972, and is still a vital part of recording, performing and touring locally and internationally.

The Funk Brothers, Steve Winwood, Cinderella, and Whitney Houston have all taken J on tour- and BuddaDadda is a focus of the sum of all that experience- with a new slick, yet somewhat greasy, gutbucket, approach that pays homage to the real soul/ funk/ & R&B from Memphis, Muscle Shoals, Philly, Detroit...........

Graham Brown
"Momentum!" - That's the word commonly used when people begin talking about Philadelphia native Graham Brown. Gaining new fans, or as he prefers, friends - with each show, each performance more clearly defines the maturation of an up and coming singer/songwriter who with his band can rock.

Recently compared to Wilco meets James Blunt with a pinch of Damien Rice, these favorable comparisons speak to the diversity of this bold, honest and introspective writer.

E.B. Hawkins Band
This seven-piece "blue-eyed soul" ensemble incorporates complex chords and melodies with hard-driving grooves and big, three-part female harmonies. Think Steely Dan, Sting, and Little Feat with a bit of Hall & Oates thrown in.

Spottiswoode

Amy Correia

Kenny White

Thursday
November 6

Spottiswoode
He started playing guitar at the age of twelve. It took him about ten years to write a halfway decent tune. Since then he has written hundreds and hundreds.

At the end of the last millennium, he moved to New York City. The New Yorker once called him a “genius” but now describes him merely as a “downtown ringleader.”
Spottiswoode

Amy Correia
"Amy Correia doesn't pretty up her voice on "Lakeville". It's shaky and scratchy; it misses notes and sometimes catches or cracks. At first her songwriting can sound just as unpolished, with melodies that are reveries on old blues, folk or gospel. But like Michelle Shocked and Tom Waits, Ms. Correia turns imperfections into intimacies."
-New York Times, Critic's Pick (Jon Pareles)
Amy Correia

Kenny White
As a six-year-old boy, Kenny would hear songs on the radio and play back what he'd just heard. His father, already having a brother planted firmly in the Borscht Belt circuit, was troubled. College, he thought…please…college…maybe med school? Not to be – piano lessons it was. Quickly growing impatient of being told that “yes, all the notes” were required in the Mozart pieces, and that changing them was not, indeed, making the music better, he gently pushes his teacher off the bench. Kenny decided then that he was going to play the piano....his way.

John B. Austin Band

Only Human

Painted Blue

Saturday
November 8

John B. Austin Band
John B. Austin Band performs a tasteful mix of Americana, Country, Rock & Blues - originals and classic covers.

Only Human
Only Human features the inspiring vocals of Alexis Hoover and the amazing fingerstyle guitar playing of Les Reisz. We are a positive pop/rock band who caters to all ages and walks of life. The members of Only Human were featured on a CD that benefits Hospice care in Doylestown, PA that included artists such as ASIA, and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.

Painted Blue
Like a band of misfit gypsies, you would probably expect to be pick pocketed and thieved by the band members of Painted Blue. In fact, they steal the hearts and breath of their listeners away with their very special blend of bluegrass, folk, jam-band and old-timey music. While Painted Blue can bring the house down with high energy rhythms and break-neck licks that would make your favorite grandma get up and dance, the group can also bring a sensitive soul to tears with songs of longing, hardship, and woe.

A haphazard group, Painted Blue may appear at first sight a motley quartet of random souls thrown together for the mere benefit of merry-making and tom foolery. But don't be misled! The music is the tie that binds these folks together and wraps their audiences up, shakes them about, and leaves them all thirsting for more. Painted Blue released their first labor of love, Time Rolls On, in 2007 to fans everywhere.
Kyle Spriggle, of Shinbone Magazine, wrote of Time Rolls On:
"This group honestly is one of the best things I've heard in ages. Their sound is something comfortable and aged, but unique. Kind of like a really good wine. You sample it and the more you enjoy the blending of eclectic tastes and savor the relaxed soulful influences you kind of fall into a daydream. Part folk artist and part Grateful Dead, these folks really have a definitive and deep sound. I for one look forward to seeing them when I can."

Featured favorites at Philadelphia-area venues including Steel City Coffee House, Chaplin's Music Cafe, Milkboy Coffee, World Cafe Live, Dawson St. Pub, Puck Live!, John & Peters, Fergies Pub, Murph's Bar, as well as festivals in and around the Tristate area. PB has had the opportunity to play with some of the greatest bands in the area proliferating American roots music, including the Pluckin' Grassholes, Mason Porter, Wissahickon Chicken Shack, David Janes, Hezekiah Jones, The New Time, The Happy Dog, and Avi and Celia.

The TypewriterGirls
The TypewriterGirls are decadent intellectuals with an uncanny penchant for monkey breeding. Descendants of the Cabaret Voltaire, their Dada-bred performances feature comedy, music, and poetry, and in the words of Comte de Lautréamont, embody the concept that, “poetry must be made by all.”

Thunder Creek
Thunder Creek is more than just singers and musicians, they also entertain with comedy and audience participation. They have numerous comedy skits in costume, as well as live banter between the band members, that will surely keep the audience laughing.

Thunder Creek thinks of themselves as entertainers first and musicians second. "Patio Dance Party"
with the Kharmatics

Friday
December 26
The Venue is closed but there is a "Patio Dance Party" with the Kharmatics free of charge.

Based in Philadelphia and Bucks County Pennsylvania, The Kharmacists are the latest musical incarnation of four musicians who began playing together in the mid-1980s as the second generation of the Tough Luck Band. With inspirational roots in American blues, funk, swing, jazz, folk and classic rock, the result is an eclectic mix of original high-energy, syncopated, introspective and soulful songs.

Unabashed and unapologetic, The Kharmacists seek to express musically their social views, personal emotions and generally distorted view of reality. When their disparate worlds collide on stage, studio or Wawa parking lot, the result is an unpredictable but thoroughly enjoyable musical odyssey.
